Isn't calcium Calcium?
There are many sources of calcium: bone meal, oyster shell, dolomite, ground limestone, citrate, etc.. Bone meal and oyster shell are very hard to metabolize. Dolomite is usually contaminated with heavy metals. Ground limestone and citrate are the best sources.
Many calcium supplements are not properly balanced with essential nutrients such as magnesium, Vit D & phosphorus and therefore flush out of the body unused.
Processing greatly determines the quality of calcium:
- if it is heat processed, the calcium molecule is rendered “bound” and is very hard to metabolize and often passes out of the body unused (or deposits in some undesirable spot in the body);
- if the supplement is “pressure packed” in processing, it may never dissolve and past out through the intestines unused.
